Vacate Your Comfort Zone

The PTO Nomad

Do me a favor, and let limitations go.

No not later, at this moment, remove “I can’t” and “never” from your life.

Vacate your comfort zone.

My trip to Barcelona, Spain was full of “unknowns”, especially the food.

My travel style is a structured roamer. I like to pick specific areas of a city, plan an excursion or event in that area, and explore the authentic parts near that event or excursion. We landed in the Born District after our free walking tour (awesome, historic experience). After the tour, we felt it was time for some authentic tapas and cava. We went off the tourist path and found a great little restaurant.

The menu was intense, but one item blared at me, ink infused squid heads. At first, I wasn’t having any parts of it, but I thought to myself, when will I ever have the chance to do this again. I hesitantly picked up the spider shaped morsel and watched the black liquid ooze out. I thought to myself, “Are you crazy”, and answered back “I guess so”. And, Crunch…Crunch…….hmmm…Crunch. To my (relieved) surprise, they were delicious, like super delicious. The Spanish’s use of saffron and other spices is so savory and bright.

Forget all about the bland rings of Calamari at your local restaurant.

So, yea, I took a small chance, but the satisfaction I felt afterwards was so cool, and it opened my mind to go bigger, braver on my other travels.
