Black Representation in the Travel Industry

The PTO Nomad

I grew up watching TV personalities on Travel Channel, dreaming I could do their job. But in the recesses of my 10-year-old mind, I did wonder if this dream was possible for a black girl like myself. There was no one that looked like me exploring the world like them.

Unfortunately, many travel industry execs believe that African Americans are disinterested in or either can’t afford travel. We are not marketed to, we don’t see much representation on networks, we are not chosen as brand influencers, nor published as much as our other counterparts.
When in reality we spend over $60 billion a year on travel and there are a PLETHORA of black people that are interested and well versed in travel.

Now it’s time for little black kids like me to see themselves in the travel realm❤

If you have a travel network, publication, brand, business, or site, be open to working with more black people. It is so important that there is more diversity within your products and company culture.
We have such a unique voice, perception, and experience when we travel and the world needs to experience it.

As a past news reporter and a travel journalist, I am more than willing to help and contribute my voice to any publications, brands, networks, or any other media platforms.

If you need me to speak or present on a panel or event, or for any interviews, please contact me at theptonomad@gmail.com.
