One of my favorite places to shop for travel supplies is Dollar Tree! Here are 21 things I picked up for my last trip.
1. Airport Socks– you finally get to airport security and they tell you those dreaded annoying words, SHOES OFF AND IN THE BIN, even worse you have on shoes with no socks! I wear my faithful @toms when traveling but I keep a pair of cheap socks on me just in case I have to take them off.
2. Totes– I ALWAYS bring a small tote with me when I travel, especially if it is a beach vacay. But it’s also great for shopping in markets and carrying items like takeout food.
3. Ponchos– In rainy locations, rain gear is always high because only tourists buy it! Be prepared by bringing your own!
4. Shower Caps– let’s be honest, those flimsy, thin shower caps they provide in hotel rooms are not for Queens or Kings with thick hair.
5. Sleep Masks– perfect for when you are sitting behind or in front of that one person that keeps their freaking bright window up on the plane. Put one on to get some shut eye.
6. Travel Bottles-don’t be that person getting all of their full size toiletries taken because you didn’t follow the 3.4 oz or less rule.
7. Loofahs– I always grab a double pack and toss them before I leave.
8. Hand Sanitizer- It’s 2020 you already know the deal. I grab the maximum amount I can of these.
9. LED Tea Lights– great for beach trips at night or if the power goes out in hurricane or electrical-outage prone countries.
10. Flashlight-see description above. But they also come in handy in dark areas and your phone battery is low, ugh.
11. Extension Outlet– oh my goodness PLEASE bring some kind of power strip/extension cord. Hotels never seem to have enough outlets! Make sure you already have an adapter if needed.
12. Collapsible Storage Box– we put everything that needs to be sanitized in here. (keys, phones, masks)
13. Mesh Laundry Bag– great for drying out wet clothing
14. Duct Tape– you ever overpacked a suitcase and had it burst? Oh…um, me neither. Duct tape can be used to mend rips and stabilize fragile items.
15. Carabiner clips– I use these to attach smaller bags to my carry-on.
16. Small Storage– great for snacks, meds, gels, makeup, extra batteries.
17. Pillowcases– I being my own satin ones for my hair and because I’m a little germaphobic.
18. Ear Plugs– for the crying baby on a plane, even if it’s your crying baby on a plane, and for the loud snorer.
19. Toothbrushes/ Toothpaste– you know why, hopefully. Grab a cover for sanitary reasons too.
20. Antimicrobial towel– I use these and lysol to wipe down my plane seat and area.
21. Storage Bags-are my essential packing item. They are useful for storing, preventing liquid spills in luggage, and organizing.
22. BONUS THE GIFT BAG FINESSE– when I come back with more than I took, I stuff my extra items in a gift bag. MOST airport personnel won’t count it as a carry-on because they think it’s a gift!
I’m not big on bringing a lot of items back from my trip into the house so I feel less guilty tossing them before heading back home.
What item were you surprised by?
