Staying Positive in Lockdown: Create Your Happy Place on a Budget

Running low on funds but need a change in scenery or space, try these out:

Get a new plant or start an herb garden.

Adding some greenery to your space not only looks nice but helps with the oxygen flow of your space and clean the air. Don’t forget to speak to your plant, studies show they grow faster. For beginners or those with a brown thumb like me, I suggest an aloe plant (you can make your own hand sanitizer), lavender, a pothos, or a peace lily.

Adopt an animal.

Animal shelters are super full right now with abandoned and adoptable pets. Having a furry friend can help cheer you up and keep you busy! Many animal shelters allow you to look for your new best friend online before you visit. Ask to set up an appointment to continue practicing social distancing.

Set the mood.

I have a huge bag of tealight candles leftover from my wedding that I place all around the house. It brings a zen feel to the house and saves on this sky-high electricity bill due to this quarantine. My favorite candles are all clean-burning and soy-based with natural wicks. LED Tealights are a great and safe alternative as well.

Lift your mood.

Use aromatherapy to change the stuffiness of your space. You can use a simple oil burner or a diffuser. I like to mix lavender, mint, and eucalyptus to calm my allergies

Use what you have!

Rearrange your space and furniture in a new configuration. Reuse items from a different room. Many items in my office were repurposed from my wedding and my old living room decor. These changes can positively affect your mood!

What are some things you are doing to your space, apartment, office, or home to switch things up a bit? Share them with me! I need some DIY projects!
